aco de Lucía Mallorca – Palma Flamenca returns for its 4th edition in Palma this spring. The week-long event benefits the Paco de Lucía Foundation, which was created as a way to celebrate the legendary guitarist, expand his legacy and the importance of flamenco in the world. De Lucía was born in Andalucia, but in the last years of his life he lived in Mallorca with his wife Gabriela Canesco. He wrote that he considered Mallorca to be a paradise, and that he had found his place on this island and would not move anywhere else. In this way, the festival is a tribute to the iconic artist as well as to the island which inspired his last years.
Soledad Bescós, founder and director of the festival, has announced an exciting programme of events that includes a special tribute to women in music and flamenco. In addition to its opening gala events on March 8th and 9th, including the announcement of the 2nd Young Talents Grant of the Paco de Lucía Festival, there will be film screenings, concerts, talks and special activities.
On March 10, the Flamenco and Cinema Special will be held, with the screening of the documentary film La guitarra flamenca by Yerai Cortés, directed by C. Tangana and a subsequent discussion. This documentary has been awarded a Special Mention by the Jury at the 2024 San Sebastián International Film Festival and is nominated for the 2025 Goya Awards in the categories of Best Documentary Film and Best Original Song for “Los Almendros”, composed by Yerai Cortés and C. Tangana, in addition to the Award for the best documentary at the In-Edit festival.
