t some point in our lives, most of us have experienced that moment of having an event to attend but feeling like you have nothing to wear, don’t want to spend money on something new or just aren’t in the mood to visit a dozen shops or websites to find something that works. Enter So Me Collective, a new fashion-focused business in Mallorca that offers a range of beautiful dresses, stylish outfits and accessories for short-term rental.

Launched by Carly Jack in late 2023, the inspiration for So Me Collective came when Carly was in Cape Town to attend two weddings and extended events but had only a small suitcase and therefore, nothing to wear. Buying several outfits was out of the question, but renting outfits was not. Introduced by a friend to a local company that rents out dresses and outfits for all sorts of occasions, Carly quickly saw the potential of bringing this concept back to Mallorca, where she has been living with her family since 2016.

Clothing rental, particularly for special events, has a big following in London and in several cities in the United States, but remains relatively new in Spain, if not across all of Europe. The So Me Collective website makes it easy to search by occasion – from weddings to girl’s night out – and the process is simple, using DHL shipping service across Mallorca and all of Spain for a specific amount of days, and you don’t even have to dry clean it before sending it back.

As a way to expand the brand and collection, Carly started looking for collaborations, connecting with Eva Folch, owner of Folklorious, the beautiful boutique in old town Palma that Folch started with Payam Farshadfar in 2017. Folch, born in Mallorca, spent much of her early career working in the United States for major fashion brands including Max Mara, Elie Tahari and Loewe, where she was the head of North American sales. When she decided to move back home to the island with her family, she opened Folklorious, a perfect reflection of her vibrant and creative style and fashion expertise. It was a seamless connection between the two small businesses, who both have a keen sense of style and insight about what looks good. “I love collaborating because you get so much more than doing things yourself”, explains Carly

For Folch, the collaboration opens a new door for the traditional retail store format. “I am really excited about this project. I feel like this is the future – it is more sustainable, more circular. You don’t have to commit to things if you are going to a wedding or party but can experiment and explore new ways of dressing as well”.  The collaboration will start with a few capsule collections, featuring one-size dresses, therefore making it more accessible to more women, and feature three themes: Greek Goddess, African Queen and Festival Chic. There will also be a collection of jewellery. In this way, people can play around with items that they may have felt intimidated to commit to before, and can see how it looks and feels. For the photo shoot, they chose Ca na Magdalena, a beautiful villa in Palma, whose roof-top terrace, pool and garden made an ideal backdrop to feature the collection.

Late in the month, So Me will open up a collection of high-end accessories that are part of the personal collection of Dolli Taylor, the owner of Trobar restaurant and bar in Cala Ratjada and Trobat, an online gallery of unique design objects, and another very talented and creative entrepreneur on the island.

So Me Collective x Folklorious capsule collection will launch on Wednesday, August 14th.
