Palau March, Palma
O

pen House Palma will present its 4th edition this year, and will include open doors to over fifty architectural treasures across Palma, as well as a series of talks, walks and related events. Open House Palma was initiated by Eduard Yuste as part of his master’s thesis, with the idea of bringing the open house event, which originated in London, to Palma. The first edition launched in 2021 with a small but important group of buildings and each year the event continues to grow with more available buildings to see and a bigger following of visitors.

Gerard Cervantes Recto, Communications Director for Open House Palma, notes that “For this 4th edition, we are focusing on people, with the theme "The city for those who inhabit it." This year, we want to highlight the relationship between urban spaces and their community, emphasising how architecture impacts the daily lives of Palma's inhabitants. In addition to exploring fascinating spaces, we offer a fresh perspective on the coexistence between the city and those who live in it, creating a more inclusive and approachable experience. One new and interesting activity this year is a forum on housing.”

There will be over fifty architectural buildings open for 2 days, from lesser known hidden treasures such as the Archaeological Society Lul.liana to curiosities such as the Lighthouse at Porto Pi to bigger known names including the Palau March and the Balearic Island Parliament. The event includes two new locations this year: Diario de Mallorca and El Coliseo Balear.

Between November 4-10th, there will be 12 "Open Walks," with each one following a different theme and itinerary. For example, there will be one focused on the architecture of Josep Ferragut, another on Casa Esment, one in the neighbourhood of La Soledad, and another about Islamic, Jewish, and Christian Palma. November 9-10 are the open house days, where visitors can visit and discover these buildings, many of which are typically not open to the public.

It is important to register for any event as space is limited. Registration will open on October 25th. Open House Palma is an exciting way to explore another side of Palma, one that is often off-limits or off the usual radar, and to connect with this city full of stories and layers of fascinating history.
