allorca is renowned for its breathtaking beaches – from long stretches of sandy shores to the tiniest, remote cove beach. Both have their benefits, but if you are looking for a more dramatic beach experience, perhaps one that requires a 15-minute hike to arrive, thereby diminishing the number of visitors or one that is surrounded by cliffs perfect for jumping, it is the cove beaches of the island that will entice. There are too many to mention here, but this small selection promises wild beauty and clear turquoise waters for a perfect slice of island paradise. Here are some of Mallorca's best beaches:
Nestled below the picturesque village of Deià on the island's northwest coast, Cala Deià is a captivating cove beach that exudes charm and laid-back vibes. As you descend the stone steps from Deià or wander in from the small yet accessible parking area, you'll be greeted by a postcard-worthy scene—a tiny beach framed by majestic cliffs, crystalline waters and a fairly tiny pebble and stone beach (aqua shoes recommended). Indulge in a leisurely swim, jump off the big jutting rock that is such an iconic image of the Cala, and then savour a lunch with a view at one of the two waterfront restaurants.
For those of you seeking a rustic beach experience, Cala Torta offers an unspoiled retreat on the northeastern coast near Artà. Get ready for a bit of a walk down, but the golden sands, crystal clear waters perfect for snorkelling, and stunning vistas make the trek to this secluded beach well worth it. Embrace the simplicity of life as you soak up the sun, enjoy a refreshing swim, and relish the unspoiled beauty of this hidden gem. After swimming and lounging in the sun, you can refuel with a snack from the little chiringuito (beach bar), but note that there are no other amenities here. Cala Torta's tranquil ambience, untouched surroundings, and abundant natural beauty make it a must-visit destination on Mallorca's coastline.
Within the Mondragó Natural Park lies the enchanting Cala Mondragó, a picturesque cove beach embraced by lush vegetation, golden sand, and clear blue waters. Step into a postcard-perfect setting at Cala Figuera tucked away on the eastern coast not far from Santanyí. A tiny, mostly rocky cove beach, Cala Figuera is also a traditional fisherman’s village dotted with white-washed houses with blue and green shutters, local shops and restaurants, as well as a charming functional port. This rocky beach is a sea lovers' haven. Bask in the sun and sea in the morning, and enjoy the town in the late afternoon and evening—a perfect day.
Prepare to be spellbound by the beauty of Caló des Moro, a cove beach on the southeastern coast near Santanyí. This is one of the most stunning beaches on the island with its emerald waters, rugged cliffs, and fine white sand, this hidden treasure feels like a slice of paradise. This small beach can be hard to find, but if you follow the ‘private’ road and walk down the steep stairs, you will get there. Come early to secure a spot as the beach is quite small and it can get crowded in peak months. From here, it is an easy walk along the cliffs to the tiny slice of Cala s’Almonia beach as well. There are no nearby amenities, so be sure to pack the essentials for a peaceful beach escape.
Tucked away on the east coast between Porto Colom and Porto Cristo, Cala Varques is a pristine paradise accessible only via boat or through a scenic hike. Surrounded by turquoise waters and dramatic cliffs, this Cala offers a unique and peaceful escape. Pack your picnic basket, as there are no amenities, and your snorkelling gear, as you’ll be treated to vibrant marine life and hidden caves beneath the surface. For those yearning for an authentic and unspoiled beach experience, Cala Varques is the perfect off-the-grid destination.
Cala Llombards, set along the southeastern coast, at the end of a relatively long but easy drive, is a picture-perfect cove beach with fine sand and inviting turquoise waters. Conveniences such as sunbeds, umbrellas, and a beach bar are a bonus and make it a more family-friendly cove beach, (no showers though, so be warned!). Relatively remote, there is only a scattering of houses lining the cliffs around the Cala, with various stone staircases that lead down from different parts of the surrounding community. But the real appeal is the small rocky cliffs that frame the beach. On one side, ladders have been installed to let bathers swim in and out, while further on are the perfect cliffs for a fun jump in the water - young as well as old.
Known for its dramatic scenery, Cala Sa Calobra is a hidden gem nestled amidst towering cliffs on the northwest coast. Reachable by a very twisty road or by boat, this magical spot rewards intrepid travellers with its rugged beauty, clear turquoise sea, and a mesmerising backdrop of rocky landscapes. While it can get crowded, a highlight is the walk through the inside of the cliffs that leads visitors to the beach. Be sure to go early.
