rt takes over Palma on September 21st with the annual Nit del Art event that officially  opens the fall art season on the island. Presented by Art Palma Contemporani, Nit del Art takes place between 18h - 23h and will include exhibition openings in a host of galleries and museums, performances, open studios and related art events.

The 12 galleries that are part of Art Palma Contemporani, which this year celebrates its twentieth anniversary, are ABA ART, BARÓ, CCA Andratx, Galería Fermay, Galería Fran Reus, KEWENIG Palma, LA BIBI, L21, Maior Pollença, Galeria Pelaires, Pep Llabrés Art Contemporani and Xavier Fiol Gallery. The main objective of Art Palma Contemporani is to facilitate public access and awareness to culture, to put forward a diversity of voices and styles and to promote the tireless work of artists so that their efforts, talent and research reach more and more people in the best and most accessible ways possible.

In addition to these twelve galleries are several ‘off’ events in collaboration with Tube Gallery and Galeria 6a, as well as Taca and Stain Projects. And a special installation by Jaume Roig made in collaboration with metalsmith Joan Ramon Sunyer will be featured at the Sant Francesc Hotel. While the majority of events are happening in Palma, there are adjacent exhibitions happening in Pollença, with Galeria Maior, and at the CCA in Andratx.

The first Nit del Art took place in September 1996, led by gallery owners Pep Pinya and Xavier Fiol, in connection with AIGAB (Independent Association of Art Galleries of the Balearic Islands). The idea was to create a union of all the galleries and have them be open until midnight for the general public. This made Palma the first city in all of Europe to celebrate La Nit de l’Art. Over time, it has gained followers until it has become a successful event that sets the rhythm of the island for a few days, making it clear that culture and contemporary art are a great asset to our society.

Some highlights of the Nit del Art 2024 include an exhibition of work by the late, great Brazilian artist, Lygia Clark, at Baro Gallery; Ghada Amer, whose powerful work will take over Keweing Gallery. Galleria Fermay presents a selection of paintings by Scottish painter Janice McNab’ LA BIBI presents work by Korean artist Miju Lee, and ABA Gallery features a solo  exhibition of paintings by Mallorcan artist Rafael Joan. Galleria Pelaires will present an engaging group exhibition titled: A collective reflection on what to think about this world, with works by Mathilde Rosier, José Dávila, Janet Cardiff, Rebecca Horn, Rasmus Nilausen, Ana Laura Aláez, Andrea Bütter y Ramiro Oller. This and much much more makes for an exciting fall season in Mallorca.
