arta Simonet, a versatile communicator and creative entrepreneur, finds inspiration in the ordinary. For her, the essence of life and creativity revolves around moments of connection - whether through food, storytelling or the gentle pace of island life. Marta’s journey, from television presenter to author and co-founder of Banquete de Ideas and now TARRO, has been shaped by her curiosity, creative expression and a deep love for her home island, Mallorca.

Curiosity has been a driving force in both her personal life and career. Describing herself as “restless, joyful, insatiable, curious and sensitive”, Marta’s exploration of communication began in her childhood. Born in Mallorca in 1983, she found a way of expressing her emotions through storytelling as a child. Her hobby of crafting stories based on photographs later evolved into her career in communications. “I never thought that writing could be part of my profession”, she reflects.

Marta’s career began in media, working both in front of and behind the camera on local television in Mallorca before making the leap to Madrid. During this time, she also shared her thoughts through a blog and photolog. However, she felt “uneasy communicating in something as vast as the internet”, she admits, so she balanced TV work with collaborations at branded content agencies. Eventually, this path led to co-founding Banquete de Ideas with her partner Jaime Collazos. The agency was born from the growing demand for authentic and impactful digital content, blending creativity, storytelling and a passion for food. Marta believes that through creating “useful and creative content that helps brands and people break the mould”, her work has the potential to connect people in meaningful ways.

Having won an award for Spain’s Best Gastronomic Blog, one of the most distinctive features of Marta’s work is her connection to food. Cooking, like watching the sea, is a meditative practice for Marta. It’s a process of deep reflection and personal expression. The aromas of tomatoes, basil or chicken broth bring her a sense of calm and disconnection from the outside world. In her eyes, the table represents a space where life unfolds - a place for love, memories and connections. “Cooking is a form of emotional currency. We express love by preparing a meal, whether it’s lentils or a perfectly cooked egg”, she explains. She believes that food connects us to both our past and present, evoking emotions and memories.

A

part from dedicating time to digital storytelling Marta has also written two novels, Azul Salado and Ojos color limón, influenced by her personal experiences. They reflect her deep connection to identity, heritage and the balance between our fast-paced modern life and the need to slow down. In her first novel, set on the island of Mallorca, Marta explores family relationships and the significance of food. Her second novel came at a time when she was grappling with burnout and the desire to step away from the velocity of modern life. “I placed the protagonist in a village threatened by depopulation, escaping the noise of the city in search of meaning”, Marta shares. Through writing, Marta has gone through her own process of self-discovery. Her experience with Azul Salado was particularly “cathartic”, as she only understood her own emotions and realized the deeper meanings of the book after completing it.

Marta believes she’ll never run out of ideas as long as she’s curious. “There’s inspiration everywhere, in the beauty of the simple”, she says. For Marta, storytelling is about celebrating the mundane moments of everyday life, whether it’s sunlight reflecting on the kitchen floor or the way a yolk spreads like a pool of orange. The author furthermore enjoys the unpredictability of storytelling, letting characters and themes evolve naturally. “For me, that’s the fun part - experimenting and writing from the gut. But whatever it is, it must be true to me, even if it’s fiction”, Marta says.

Although Marta has lived in Madrid and travelled extensively, Mallorca remains her home and a constant source of inspiration. She describes Mallorca as a place of light and calm, offering its own rhythm of life that allows for both inward reflection and outward creativity. “I feel there is a natural ebb and flow throughout different times of the year that allows me to think, create or simply do”, she says. The island’s natural beauty and calming influence, especially being surrounded by the sea, offer a refuge for her mind, which is essential for her creativity and work.

"I love receiving messages from people who tell me they are travelling to Mallorca because they read Azul Salado or that my work inspired them to cook, write or express their creativity in a genuine way.”
