Bali Bed at Numa Beach Club
S

tretched out on a beachfront Bali bed, bottle of bubbly cooling in the ice bucket, iridescent seascape spread out before you – nothing epitomises laid-back Balearic glitz quite like a day at a beach club. But not all Mallorca beach clubs are created equal. While some are pitched at the yacht-set glitterati looking to lunch on lobster thermidor, others cater to the up-for-it party crowd seeking some daytime shape-throwing to Balearic beats. Whatever experience you’re looking for, you can be sure to find it among these beach clubs on Mallorca.

Gran Folies Beach Club

Set on the edge of the water in the uber-luxe enclave of Cala Llamp, it’s no surprise Gran Folies is among the swankiest of beach clubs on Mallorca. It’s also one of the island’s longest-running, attracting a well-heeled crowd since first opening in the seventies. An outstanding menu of Mediterranean fare marks it out as one of the best for dining, while its snazzy seafront pool is the perfect spot to soak up the soaringly spectacular surroundings.

Puro Illetas

While there are two Puro beach clubs on the island, most agree the one overlooking the beautifully bijou Illetas is the better of the pair. The Puro Group’s signature white-on-cream aesthetics set the tone to island chic, but without the background throb of Balearic beat to disturb the serenity. There’s no swimming pool either, but guests have direct access to a small, scenic bay to cool off in. A decent menu mixes Miami, Marrakech and Melbourne influences, plus pampering comes in the form of sea-view massages.

Mhares Sea Club

The lofty stretch of cliff that skirts the east side of Palma Bay offers some truly spectacular views, of which Mhares Sea Club takes full advantage. In keeping with its relatively secluded setting, the vibe is understated and unpretentious, attracting a friendly mix of locals and visitors. Loungers and daybeds lined a big L-shaped pool, with premium cliff-edge real estate pointing out to sea and some of the best sunsets you’ll see on Mallorca.

Shiva Beach Club

Head a little south along this rocky coast from Mhares Sea Club and you soon come to Shiva Beach Club. While sharing those breathtaking clifftop panoramas, the mood here is more blingy beach club and, unlike many, the little ones are welcome. A huge swimming pool features big floating pillows, plus there’s a sandy artificial beach where you can flop on bean bags and watch the sun dip over the fiery horizon.

UM Beach House Portals

With its bamboo seating, chunky wood tables and eye-pleasing weave decor, UM Beach House Portals is the boho-chicest of the bunch. An emphasis on live DJ sessions spinning funky beats gives the place a hip, pool-party vibe with regular events featuring fire and dance performances. Choose between flopping on double daybeds or super-comfy loungers under parasols or dappled shade from pine and palm trees. And if you fancy a salty dip, steps lead down to a small pebbly beach.

Nikki Beach

Sat at the swisher end of Magaluf, Mallorca’s Nikki Beach outpost offers all the high-energy, party-on experience you expect from the global brand. A younger, up-for-it crowd are kept entertained with throbbing DJ sessions, live musical performances and poolside dancers. A colourful menu of gourmet favourites includes their signature ‘Sexy Salad’ and ‘Sushi Boat’ for up to eight diners. Beware, there’s an eye-watering mark-up on drinks and an impressive selection of champagne.
